There are books, games and videos to keep children amused at the villa. Outside the garden is securely fenced. Although the pool will be great for older children who can swim, we feel it is not really suited to toddlers unless properly supervised (the pool is more than two metres deep at the deep end!)
Although the ground floor areas and terraces outside are level and easy to negotiate, the upstairs bedroom and terraces may be more difficult.
The climate in the Algarve is one of the best in Europe. Some showers may be expected in late autumn to spring, and may be quite heavy. But the sun will shine warmly soon afterwards. From late April to early October it is nearly always sunny and warm. We particularly recommend May, June and September when the weather is excellent, but there are many fewer other visitors present. Don't forget your sun screen! The villa is not available during the winter months at present.

There is an abundance of restaurants in the area, both in the local towns and off the main N125 road a kilometre or so away from the villa. Nearby Moncarapacho has two excellent restaurants, the Colibri and the Olympus. The food usually is Portuguese-style, excellent and inexpensive, and wine is cheap. Seafood in particular is recommended.
This is very unlikely except in late autumn to spring. But if you do experience an exception from the usual sunshine, use this as an excuse to visit that museum, or do that shopping ... Rest assured that sunny weather will return quite soon!
Although driving on Portuguese roads used to be a bit scary, road manners have shown a dramatic improvement since the recent introduction of a strict "zero tolerance" policy by the police. Now things are a lot better, with the maximum speed limit of 80 km (50 mph) per hour strictly enforced on main roads such as the busy N125. Driving, and even cycling, on the N125 is now much safer for us visitors, and not much different from the the UK. On the new pan-Algarve motorway speeds can be greater, but this road is never very busy and consequently it is very pleasant and safe to drive ... and it has some great scenic views to enjoy!
We do keep a first aid kit in the Villa for small things. But for your peace of mind there is a really modern hospitals with out-patient department at Faro. At Tavira and Olhao there are also big, well-equipped Heath Centres. The one at Tavira is on the road from Santo Lucia as you approach the town. It is well signposted and the attention given to minor injuries has been thought highly of by previous guests.
